Things to do in Genting for family with kids this December 2018
We wanted a short winter holiday for our family this December and had shortlisted Seoul, Taiwan, Japan and even to the Dubai (not so much of winter here) but alas plans changed and we ended up booking a flight to Kuala Lumpur and decided to spend a couple of nights in Genting for some cold winter weather experience for the little ones.
Genting Highland has changed a lot since we went in Feb 2017, and I was told new experiences open almost every other month now as they geared up to the (hopefully soon) opening of the outdoor theme park which is now nameless as they find new partners to take on the baton left behind by Disney-Fox. But still… there are so many things to see, buy, dine and experience at Genting, our 3D2N stay wasn't enough!
Here's sharing our stay, play and family experience at Genting Highland from 10 Dec to 13 Dec 2018, Mummy wants to return on 29 Dec 2018 to catch the Grasshopper concert leh!
The first thing you should do when you arrive at Genting Resorts, go straight to the Rewards counter on level 1 and level 2 of SkyAvenue near the Casino entrance. And bring along your identity card and/or passport! Apply for the Genting Rewards card first before you start spending and check-in. Singaporeans get a free upgrade to the silver card upon application. The card is valid for 3 years and is accepted onboard Genting cruise too. Sharing this tip upfront because we didn’t do it when we were there and lost all the points for our 3 days of spending. Boo-hoo!
Ride: Awana Skyway Cable Car Ride
Hop onto the cable car up to Genting Resorts from Awana Sky, right next to the Premium Outlets. We bought our tickets from Klook and could simply scan the QR code from the email confirmation and proceed directly to the queue. When travelling with luggage bigger than cabin size (like us) you’ll need to purchase a top-up for that luggage to ride on the cable car. Each oversized luggage needs a top-up of RM19.
Stay: Theme Park Hotel at Genting Highlands
Situated right next to Genting Grand, Theme Park Hotel is easily accessible via a sheltered walkway and a short uncovered 50m zebra crossing from the main building where Sky Avenue and all indoor attractions are housed. When the outdoor theme park opens its door, the Theme Park Hotel will be right next to the entrance!
During our stay, our room was in the Valley Wing room 5878, a non-smoking quad room, which is right at the other end of the hotel. Getting to our room from the hotel entrance can take about 6 to 8 min, first by lift to level 3, walking across a link bridge which brings us to level 7 of the Valley Wing, and then lift down to level 5 then another 200m corridor to get to our room. Tired right just reading this long sentence? Well, we did manage to clock more than 10,000 steps on our Healthy365 challenge these 3 days. Lol!
The room has all the basic necessary stuff and our girls especially love the platform and beds on it. There was no wardrobe but plenty of knobs and hooks around the room and toilet area to hang stuff. Storage space aplenty under the bed which I thought was a smart build. Wonder if they clean all the way into the platform though cos it is pretty deep.
There isn't any air-conditioning in the room, but with the cool and chilling air coming from outside the window or balcony, you really don't even need to turn on the small ceiling fan. On the first night it was so cold outside I had to shut all windows and turned the fan to the lowest speed.
Play: Skytropolis, Big Top, High Life at SkyAvenue and more!
Although the outdoor theme park is still under construction there are plenty of activities and fun indoor at Genting. Parents prepare your monies cos the little ones will not let you go without jumping onto or into any of these fun rides! There are A LOT of rides and we had to pick selective! As the Skytropolis just opened and is still in preview mode, some rides the and those available rides have got very long queues, we just watched and moved on to the other play areas.

Eat: Too many choices!
One thing for sure is that you will never get hungry when you are here. There are so many dining and food choices around the Genting resorts and most of them are friendly to all dietary needs.
Shop: SkyAvenue, Awana SkyCentral, Genting Premium Outlet and Wintry Santorini pop-up
We didn’t do much shopping while we were there except for some snacks and toys for the little ones. But we did get ourselves some nice photos for keepsake while window shopping.
We love all stay and experience at Genting Resorts and will surely be back again! Hope the outdoor theme park gets sorted out soon and the construction will go smoothly on schedule.
